Fruits and Vegetables = Nutrients, Vitamins and Minerals
This category has been created because we always wanted to have a quick reference guide on hand regarding nutrition, vitamins, and minerals.
When we eat, whenever we decide to eat certain food we try to ask the important question(s): why am I going to eat this particular meal, food, produce? What kind of nutrient and benefits it will bring for my body in short and long term?
Nutritious = full of nutrients.
Nutrients can be divided into 2 categories:
– macronutrients,
– and micronutrients.
Macronutrients – are caloric components of our foods, provide energy, only when there are sufficient micronutrients to release them. They include:
- carbohydrates,
- fats
- and proteins.
Micronutrients – do not themselves provide energy, are essential for good health. They include:
- vitamins,
- minerals,
- trace elements,
- phytochemicals,
- and antioxidants.
